Puppy & Kitten Care
The Early Years
Congratulations on your new bundle of fur. It’s exciting having a puppy or kitten scrambling around the house and figuring out the ways of the world. It can also be stressful for you—and them! Young animals, like human babies, are susceptible to illnesses and conditions.
There’s a lot to be mindful of, especially in their first year to ensure they get the best start in life. Once you have them home, call and schedule a routine wellness check at the clinic/hospital.
Puppies and kittens should be vaccinated early and often; at 6-8 weeks, 10-12 weeks, and at 14-16 weeks. At this stage in their lives, little companions are more susceptible to gastrointestinal worms, and there are ticks and fleas to consider, so you’ll want a parasite control plan.
